It’s all in what you say with Textio
If you have ever queried your choice of words, read or written a job description, then it’s worth checking out Textio – an augmented writing platform that tells you how your writing will perform before you ever publish it.
Predominantly aimed at those involved with recruitment, Textio’s predictive engine analyses data about job posts and outcomes collected from around the globe to find patterns that cause some to succeed where others fail. As a person writes a document, Textio predicts its appeal, offers guidance for improvement and helps them get it right the first time.
CEO and co-founder Kieran Snyder combined her experience in product leadership with her insights into linguistics to form Textio. She says “Realising that language has a substantial influence on who gets hired for a job post, Textio’s first application, Textio Talent, tells you who will apply to your job post based on the language you’ve used”.
Textio makes a quantifiable promise to customers that if they follow the platform’s guidance they will increase the number of applicants qualified enough to interview by 24%, increase the number of applicants from underrepresented backgrounds by 12%. Because of that increase, companies fill a role 17% faster.
Kieran explains “We have incredible adoption in the enterprise. Some of our customers include Vodafone, Apple, Credit Suisse, Johnson & Johnson and many more. We are a collaborative platform, where people can share their job posts and learn from one another. Textio works best for teams, so we offer enterprise level subscriptions to customers. Once subscribed to Textio any person within the company who is working on hiring (hiring managers, recruiters, etc.) can have access to Textio to improve the effectiveness of their job posts.”
Textio helps to mitigate the effect of unconscious bias that can creep into job listings. The platform includes a gender-tone analyzer that determines whether there is a masculine or feminine tone bias in a job post. Companies that use Textio to make their posts gender-neutral meaningfully change the gender balance of their applicant pool.
Kieran explains “When people write with Textio they contribute their anonymized data – published job posts, applicant stats, and hiring outcomes – to the collective data set. By calculating the real-world results of the collective data, the predictive engine gets smarter with every keystroke, meaning that each participating company benefits from the experience of everyone else in the network.”
Textio will be joining one of their customers who is talking at HR Tech World. Catalina Schveninger will share how Vodafone is using Textio to combat unconscious bias in hiring (digital HR track Tuesday 11:40).
